Welcome to the Apprenticeship Hub
Literacy Link South Central’s Step Up and Succeed Project
The project primarily focused on providing support for success with and throughout the apprenticeship process.
In year two of this ambitious project, the primary goal was supporting small and medium-sized employers, as well as Training Delivery Agents (TDAs) and the apprentices they train.
A focus unique for the 2025-2026 fiscal year
- Updating the original resource hub by improving accessibility and functionality to create a redesigned and significantly expanded website.
- Launching the website under its new name “ApprenticeshipHub.ca” in January 2026 and including additional resources that were developed based on employer feedback.
What is the ApprenticeshipHub.ca?
A FREE resource hub with a lot to offer!
The Apprenticeship Hub is a free, all-in-one platform full of resources built to make the apprenticeship process accessible and easier to navigate.
The Hub connects employers and apprentices to free Get SET (Skills, Education and Training) programs (formerly known as Literacy and Basic Skills), which support on-the-job learning, in-school training, and overall skill development—boosting apprenticeship success.
Since its launch at the end of January 2026, ApprenticeshipHub.ca has received over 11 000 unique visitors.
The Hub contains a multitude of articles, step-by-step guides, training videos, downloadable PDF resources, and links to additional references and supports. The website is searchable by keyword, button, and drop-down menus. It also contains links to the Apprenticeship Toolkit (geared more specifically to apprentices themselves), and a sign up form for the Step Up and Succeed in the Skilled Trades newsletter highlighting success stories related to apprenticeship, featured employers in the skilled trades, key tools from the hub, recent activities and upcoming events.
Among the most popular pages and downloads on the Apprenticeship Hub are:
Become a Sponsor/Steps to Sponsoring an Apprentice
- Sponsoring the next generation of skilled workers is a crucial step to future proofing our workforce – but the sponsorship process can feel confusing and time consuming.
- This section breaks down the sponsorship process into manageable pieces, providing all the information needed to hire and sponsor an apprentice.
Skill Development for Apprentices
- Hiring and training a new apprentice can be challenging. Apprentices don’t always have the skills they need to be job ready. This means that apprentices often lack key employability skills necessary to be successful in their training. This can lead to issues with recruitment, retention and employee satisfaction.
- This section contains information and links to FREE adult upskilling programs that can help apprentices build their skills.
Leveraging A.I.
- Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) is quickly becoming a popular tool for small and medium-sized businesses in the skilled trades. When used thoughtfully, A.I. can help save time, reduce administrative workload and support better decision-making without replacing the skills, knowledge and experience that tradespeople bring to their work.
- This section of the hub is designed to help businesses get started with A.I. in a practical, low-risk way.
Be an Employer of Choice / Inclusive Recruitment Practices
- Young workers’ values often include authenticity, inclusion, openness and acceptance of diversity.
- By making small adjustments to the work environment and policies, employers can show they value their apprentices and workforce and save money in the process.
Create a Mentorship Plan
- Employers often recognize the importance of combining training and mentorship. But they don’t always have the knowledge or resources to train their journeypersons to be effective mentors.
- This section contains helpful tips to create journeyperson mentors.
Access Grants and Incentives
- There are many gaps in the skilled trades, from a lack of skilled workers to the barriers in the industry.
- This section outlines incentive programs that can reduce some of these barriers and help businesses grow.
Through partnerships with provincial apprenticeship-serving organizations and Workforce Planning Boards across Ontario, the Apprenticeship Hub has become a cohesive system of resources built to support career development professionals and their clients, skilled trades employers, TDAs and apprentices.
Literacy Link South Central’s Step Up and Succeed project team is thrilled to have created this useful resource and plans to continue developing and expanding the tools and information available in the years to come!
This Employment Ontario project is funded in part by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario.
